€30m student digs under way in Cork
John Paul Construction has begun construction works on Broga House, a student accommodation development comprising 280 bed spaces located at the former Square Deal Premises on Washington Street West in Cork City. It is estimated to cost in the region of €30 million. The developer is projecting to have this development open and operational by September 2022, in time for the 2022-23 academic year.

101-apartment scheme gets the go-ahead in Blackrock, Co. Dublin
Seabren Developments has been granted a strategic housing development planning application for a 101-apartment development with a build-cost of about €22 million and located at the former Europa Garage site on Newtown Avenue in Blackrock, Co Dublin. As part of the granted planning application, a basement car park catering for up to 74 car spaces will be built. The scheme will also include a 1,162 square metre communal open space and 302 square metres of public open space.

Application submitted for 411 units at Auburn House in Co. Dublin
Kinwest has submitted a strategic housing development application for 411 units, including 102 houses and 309 apartments located by the lands at Auburn House near Malahide in Co Dublin. The €90 million scheme, bounded by Little Auburn and Streamstown, will retain the existing Auburn House – a protected structure – as a residential dwelling. It will also include the conversion of existing stables into four dwellings along with a childcare facility. An Bord Pleanála is expected to decide on the application by July.

Work begins on 80 units at Cherry Lane in Dublin 18
Monami Construction has started works on the first phase of construction of 80 semi-detached, terraced and end-of-terrace dwellings – including associated site development works -at Quintain’s 300-plus unit development, Cherry Lane in Cherrywood, Dublin 18. The project comprises two planning applications for sites adjoining each other, and the project cost of construction works on the overall plan is in the region of €66 million.

Work to start at Newmarket Square scheme in D8
Construction works are expected to start in Q3/Q4 2021 on a €90 million build-to-rent apartment development at a site called Newmarket Square, located at the former IDA Ireland Small Business Centre/Newmarket Industrial Estate, Brabazon Place, St Luke’s Avenue and Newmarket Street, Dublin 8. The development includes 413 units, of which there are 203 studios, 136 one-bedroom units, 72 two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units. There’s also associated resident support facilities/ resident services and amenities and all associated ancillary accommodation in a building of up to six storeys.

Work commences on D8 mixed-use development
JJ Rhatigan & Co has begun basement/foundation works on a mixed use development which will comprise 86 apartment units along with retail and commercial units. The €25 million development site, known as One Le Pole Square, is located at Chancery Lane and Ship Street Great in Dublin 8. The project is expected to be completed by Q1/Q2 2022.

€45m apartment scheme in Clonsilla under construction
Elliott Building & Civil Engineering has commenced works on a €45 million apartment development at Windmill in Porterstown, Clonsilla, Dublin 15. The scheme comprises 211 apartments in four blocks (Block J, K, L and M), including ten studio units, 68 one-bed units and 133 two-bed units, above an existing basement. Block J is a six-storey block, including a penthouse level, with 46 apartments. Block K, another six-storey block, includes a penthouse level and another 46 apartments. Blocks L and M are interlinked, L-Shaped, part-six and part-eight storey blocks, including a penthouse level with 119 apartments in total. A communal residents’ amenity space is proposed at ground floor level of Block L-M.
